SCHOOL SELF EVALUATION

 

In-Service

 

  • On Monday, 26th January 2015 Karina Holton Divisional Inspector met with Mary Bray Principal to review the schools progress in relation to School Self Evaluation and offer recommendations.
  • On Wednesday, 28th of January 2015 Paula Darby and Deirdre Fay attended “Explicitly Teaching Writing”  Course presented by Stephen Graham in the Court Hotel, Tullamore.
  • On Saturday the 25th of April Catherine Leavy attended PDST ‘Numeracy: Making an IMPACT’ Conference in the Killeshin Hotel, Portlaoise

 

 

Evaluation Approaches and Methods

 

  • A Questionnaire focusing on Numeracy was formulated by The Principal Mary Bray and Special Duties Post Holder Paula Darby and was circulated to all parents.

 

  • A pupil questionnaire focusing on Numeracy was formulated by Principal Mary Bray and Special Duties Post Holder Paula Darby. This questionnaire was circulated to the pupils in third and sixth class.

 

  • The findings of both the Parent and the Pupil questionnaires are available on the school website.

 

 

Literacy

 

As part of the school Improvement Plan:

 

  1. Paula Darby undertook a Reading Recovery Training Programme with Kilkenny Education Centre and graduated on Tuesday, 9th of June 2015.
  2. Michelle McEvoy undertook additional In-service in Reading Recovery in Kilkenny Education Centre.
  3. Mr. Finn’s First Class visited Edenderry Library on Wednesday the 19th of November 2014.
  4. Visiting Children Author Liam Farrell hosted a Book Reading session with Junior and Senior Infant classes funded by Edenderry Library on Friday the 21st of November 2014.
  5. Miss Curneen’s Senior Infant Class began Literacy Lift Off Programme immediately after the Halloween break and continued the programme up to the Easter
  6. Ms. Leavy’s Junior Infant Class began a Literacy Lift Off Programme immediately after the Easter break and continued the programme up to the Summer break.
  7. Ms. Fay & Ms. Lynch’s 2nd, 3rd and 4th Class undertook a weekly guided reading programme from September to June.
  8. On the 5th of March Ellie Farrell from 5th Class represented the School in the Offaly Eason Spelling Bee finishing in 6th

 

 

 

At End of Year B.O.M The Principal Mary Bray presented:

  2. The Legislative and Regulatory requirements that need to be addressed.

Policy Formation

 

The following Policies and Plans were formulated and ratified by the Board of Management:

 

 

Parents as Partners

 

On the 6th of November 2014 a sub-committee of the Parents Association consisting of Tracey Murphy, Chairperson, Caroline Ennis, Treasurer and Josephine Groome met with Mary Bray Principal to assist with the formation of the “Parents in Partners” Policy.

 

Job Sharing Policy

 

Members of the Board of Management and members of the staff were presented with an IPPN Prompt Document on Job Sharing which was discussed and used as a basis for the formulation for the Job Sharing Policy.

Child Protection Matters

 

  • On the 21st of January 2015 Catherine Leavy, Deputy Principal attended Child Protection In-Service in Kildare Education Centre.
  • On the 25th of February 2015 Marian Heffernan PDST delivered staff training in relation to child protection matters.

 

Principal’s Report

 

September

 

  • On the 16th of September 2014 The Grandparents Mass was held in St. Peter’s Church, Rhode. Refreshments organized in the hall by the Parents Association.
  • On Tuesday the 23rd of September 2014 Irene Glavin began her appointment as School Secretary.

October

 

  • On the 7th of October 2014 Ms. Talty’s 5th class and Mr. Guilfoyle’s 6th Class visited the National Gallery and the National Museum of Ireland. Pupils got an opportunity to view the “Bog Bodies”.
  • On Thursday the 9th of October 2014 Fr. Corcoran celebrated a Retirement Mass for School Secretary Annette Masterson. Presentations were made by Linda Smyth, Treasurer of the Board of Management, Tracey Murphy, Chairperson of the Parents Association and Mary Bray, Principal. A Horse chestnut tree was planted in the school grounds.
  • On Sunday the 12th of October 2014 new Junior Infants were given a special blessing. Each pupil was presented with a guardian angel pin and prayer book.
  • On the 22nd of October 2014 Ms. Lynch’s 2nd and 3rd and Ms. Fay’s 3rd and 4th visited the Power Station, the Windfarm, Tubberdaly Castle and the Canal. John Jones, Caretaker guided the local history tour of Tubberdaly Castle and the Canal.
  • On Monday, 29th of October Garda Newman gave a presentation on Road Safety to the 5th and 6th Class pupils.

 

November

 

  • On Friday 7th of November 2014 Scoil Mhuire Naofa were beaten by Daingean in the boys semi-final of Offaly Cumann na nBunscol in O’Brien Park .
  • On Tuesday, 4th of November 2014, Fr. Corcoran held a Prayer Service for the Dead in the school hall.
  • On Thursday, 17th of November 2014 Maeve Mahon, Diocesan Religious Adviser met with Mary Bray and Catherine Leavy regarding “Key Characteristics of our School as a Catholic School”.  On Thursday the 8th of January 2015 a representative group from the Board of Management, Parents Association and teachers group consisting of Fr. Cororcan, Pat Swaine, Josephine Groome, Caroline Ennis, Tracey Murphy, Catherine Leavy and Mary Bray met to formulate a “Three Year Plan based on key characteristics of our school as a Catholic School”.
  • On Monday 24th of November A Book Fair was organized by the Deputy Principal Catherine Leavy. The amount raised was €2057.90. Our School is allowed €1234.00 towards the purchase of  new books.
  • On Tuesday 25th November 2014 the Parent Teacher Meetings took place.
  • On Friday 28th of November and Friday 30th of January Fr. Corcoran organised Confirmation Parish Retreat in the Parish Hall.

 

December

 

  • On Friday, 5th of December the School Choir with Catherine Leavy took part in the Hallelujah Concert in City West, Dublin with 3,000 children from around the country.
  • On Friday, 12th of December a Craft Fair with Rhode coloured merchandise to celebrate Rhode’s involvement in the Leinster Final took place in the school hall.
  • 17th of December 2014 – Ms. Fay and Ms. Lynch’s 2nd 3rd and 4th Class held a Carol Service in the Hall.
  • 19th of December 2014 – Ms. Curneen’s Senior Infants held a Carol Service also.
  • At Christmas Eve Mass Junior Infant staged the Nativity Play in St. Peter’s Church, Rhode.

 

 

January

 

  • On Tuesday 6th January Fr. Corcoran celebrated Mass for the Feast of the Epiphany.
  • On Tuesday, 20th of January Enrolment Day for new entrants.
  • On Thursday 23rd of January 2015 Fr. Jimmy O’Reilly, Kiltegan Missionary Priest gave a presentation to the pupils on his work in Kenya at a school assembly.
  • On Wednesday, 28th of January 2015, Garda Eileen Newman and Garda Leslie Coss gave a presentation to the pupils of 5th and 6th class on bullying/cyberbullying.

 

 

February

 

  • Monday, 2nd February 2015, Fr. Corcoran celebrated a prayer service for the Feast of St. Brigid.
  • Wednesday, 18th February 2015, Fr. Corcoran celebrated a prayer service for Ash Wednesday.
  • The Board of Management ratified a decision to implement a Teacher Exchange Programme on the 23rd February 2015 between Eimear O’Donovan and Marian Lynch for the school year 2015-2016. The Teacher Exchange Programme will be subject to an annual review.

 

 

March

 

  • Annual Audit on Special Education was conducted by Aisling Bacon Special Education Needs Organizer on Wednesday, 4th
  • On Monday, 9th of March First Confessions took place for 2nd
  • On Thursday 19th of March First Aid Training was provided to all pupils by Edenderry Red Cross.
  • On Thursday 26th of March Mr. Finn’s 1st Class performed  “The Great Trial of Goldilocks”
  • On the 26th of March Aoife Clarke, 6th Class represented the school in the Most Enterprising Student Competition in the Tullamore Court Hotel.

April

 

  • On 18th April 2015 Confirmation in St. Peter’s Church.
  • Swimming for 3rd to 6th Class in Edenderry Swimming Pool for a six week period.
  • On 29th of April Rhode Community Games Sports Day took place in Rhode GAA grounds.
  • Darby, Green School Co-Ordinator involved the local community in the Knit 1km Project in order to obtain the 4th Green Flag for Travel. The pupils of our school participated in the SOW in April and their efforts were rewarded by the presentation of a Micro-Scooter and helmet to our school by the Green School Co-Ordinator Lorraine Flanagan.

 

May

  • On 12th of May Induction Day was held for new entrants.
  • On 14th of May a Non-Uniform Day raised €345 towards the training provided to all pupils by Edenderry Red Cross.
  • On Wednesday 20th of May Mary Bray, Principal attended the INTO Principals’ Seminar in the Tullamore Court Hotel.
  • On Wednesday 20th of May Cumann na mBunscol Finals took place in O’Connor Park. Rhode girls beat Tubber in the final and Rhode Boys beat Bracknagh securing a double victory.
  • On Saturday, 23rd of May Fr. Corcoran celebrated the First Holy Communion with the pupils from Ms. Lynch’s 2nd
  • On Tuesday, 26th of May Paula Darby was awarded the 4th Green Flag for travel at a presentation in the Radison Hotel, Athlone.

 

June

 

  • On Tuesday, 9th of June Fr. Corcoran celebrated a Graduation Mass for 6th class pupils.
  • On Friday, 12th of June medals were presented to the girls and boys finalist in the Cumann na mBunscol in the Parish Hall.
  • On Tuesday, 16th of June our School raised its 4th Green Flag for Travel.
