Gaelic Football

GAA in Scoil Mhuire Naofa

Gaelic football is the sport of choice among the majority of students in Scoil Mhuire Naofa. The school has a boys’ team and a girls’ team; both teams participate in Cumann na mBunscol competitions travelling all over Offaly playing other schools.

The school also participates in Astro Turf competitions and mini seven tournaments both usually take place in spring.

The school boys’ and girls’ teams combined with students from Croghan N.S. and Ballybryan N.S. make up the Rhode Parish Team.

The school’s football field has been redeveloped and students play football at lunchtime.  Rhode GAA club permit our students to train on their impressive grounds on Tuesdays along with the other two schools in our parish, Croghan N.S. and Ballybryan N.S.

It must be noted that the school is extremely grateful for the support of parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, guardians, neighbours etc in their continued co-operation with GAA in the school, for cheering on our students when they win and consoling them when they lose.

Football with Donal

Children from 2nd Class to 6th Class play football with Donal Hickey on Thursdays. This provides children with an excellent and unique opportunity to develop their skills with a prominent and experienced player from the Rhode senior team. His contribution to football in the school is very much appreciated by teachers and students alike.
